Following a mid-year adjustment mandated by the current contract which effectively placed the total compensation of sworn peace officers represented by the Santa Monica Police Officers’ Association second highest among that provided to law enforcement officers in Los Angeles County, Association representatives elected to extend that agreement for an additional year through June 30, 2009. By doing so, the Association guaranteed its members a 4% salary increase effective July 1, 2008, a commitment by the City to pay health insurance premium increases that might occur during the fiscal year up to 12% and a commitment to make a January salary adjustment if necessary to cause the officers’ total compensation to remain the second highest among designated high-paying law enforcement agencies in Los Angeles County.
The Association was represented by the Chairman of its Board of Directors, Jay Trisler, Vice-President Doug Theus and the attorney who has represented the Association for almost 40 years, Steve Silver.
