Beverly Hills POA Negotiations
Sat, 05/05/2007

Following prolonged and intense negotiations, the Beverly Hills Police Officers’ Association and the City of Beverly Hills reached a 4 year agreement that assured that the affected employees will remain the highest compensated law enforcement officers in Southern California. The parties agreed that retroactive to the commencement of the first contract year (September 29, 2007), the represented police officers and sergeants would receive a 6% increase in their total compensation. Half of that increase, or 3%, was allocated to salary and the other half was used to provide a retirement enhancement. At the commencement of the second contract year, the employees will receive a 3.5% percent salary increase and at the beginning of the third contract year they will enjoy a 2.75% salary increase.

For the fourth contract year, a comprehensive total compensation survey will be conducted to ascertain which law enforcement agency in Southern California other than Beverly Hills provides its law enforcement officers with the highest valued total compensation as defined in the formula. A similar survey will be conducted with respect to firefighting personnel. Following the completion of those processes, the total compensation of Beverly Hills law enforcement officers will be adjusted, if necessary, to cause it to be at least 1% higher than the next highest total compensation awarded to comparable law enforcement officers in Southern California. Interestingly, if the survey regarding firefighters demonstrates that the total compensation of sworn firefighters employed by the City of Beverly Hills is more that 1% higher than that provided by the next highest agency, the total compensation of police officers will then be elevated to cause it to be that same percentage above the next highest total compensation provided by a Southern California law enforcement agency.

The Association’s negotiation team consisted of its then-President John Czarnocki, its current President George DeMarois, Dale Drummond, Joe Chirillo, Mike Publicker, Finn McLafferty, Terry Nutall, Cary Williams, and the attorney who has represented the Association for the past 25 years, Steve Silver.
